MASTERCLASS: 'Discovering Franciacorta' - hosted by Nicola Bonera (in Italian only!)

As always, the day after our Hill Barolo event, we delve into the wines of our partner, which, this year, is Franciacorta!!

On Saturday 21 June, the Masterclass ‘Discovering Franciacorta’ will be hosted by Nicola Bonera, awarded 'Best Sommelier of Italy' in 2010.

The Franciacorta consortium has put together a fine selection of wines for the occasion in order to offer participants a good overview of the denomination; there will be eight wines available for tasting.

It will be an opportunity to discover the history and many secrets of Franciacorta, the first Italian sparkling wine to obtain DOCG status in 1995, known and loved both in Italy and around the world.

So the Consortium for the Protection of Franciacorta will be our partner this year, and you will already be able to taste a wide selection of Franciacorta the day prior to the Masterclass, on Friday 20 June, at our Hill Barolo event.

The Masterclass will start at 11.30 a.m. and will last approximately 2 hours. Places are limited so we recommend you book early.

The Masterclass will be led by AIS Lombardia (Italian Sommelier Association, Lombardy division) speaker Nicola Bonera.

'One of the world's first publications on the technique of preparing naturally fermented wines in the bottle is part of the interplay between the history, wine and culture of Franciacorta [...]. Printed in Italy in 1570, the text was written by the Brescian physician Girolamo Conforti with the significant title Libellus de vino mordaci (Treaty on lively wine). This doctor, whose studies preceded the insights of the illustrious abbot Dom Perignon, emphasised the widespread popularity and wide consumption that bubbly wines enjoyed at the time, describing them as ‘mordacious’, i.e. lively and bubbly.'
