History

Taking care of the vineyard is in our blood and winemaking is our great passion.
The Società Agricola La Roncaglia is a 4th generation winery located in the hamlet of Santa Maria in La Morra. The company is named after the location of the ancient Cascina Roncaglia Sottana, which has been in the Roggero family since the beginning of the last century, and was first established by founding father Luigi Roggero. We have been cultivating grapes and producing superior wines for more than a hundred years. All our wines are made exclusively from grapes grown in our own vineyards.

People

La Roncaglia is a family-run winery and was led by Luigi Roggero until the early 1970s. Subsequently, continuity was ensured by Luigi's daughters: Lidia, Silvana and, most notably, Margherita, who spent her entire life in and around the vineyards, allowing winemaking and oenological practices to grow to levels of excellence. Around 2010, a third generation of enthusiasts coming from different professional backgrounds, was called upon to undertake a thorough restructuring of the vineyards and of the winemaking equipment, including the planting of new vines. Today, the fourth generation is in charge, with the addition of Pietro, Lidia's grandson, who is enthusiastic and passionate about managing the cellar as well as sales and hospitality.

Vineyards

The total surface area of La Roncaglia is about 6 hectares and consists mainly of vineyards and hazelnut groves. The area under vine is about 4 hectares, with mostly south/south- eastern exposure. The vineyards are all part of two of La Morra's most prestigious cru, located in the hamlet of Santa Maria: Roncaglie and Capalot. The vineyards are cultivated according to the principles of integrated farming. All work is done manually, with great respect for nature and favouring sustainable winemaking practices. Our production is geared towards achieving the highest levels of quality. We practice repeated cluster thinning in the vineyard and grape selection at harvest in order to reduce yields and achieve a first-rate product.

Wines

Our production focuses on a small number of quality wines. We can offer an elegant Barolo from the MGA Capalot, a fresh Barbera d'Alba 'na stissa' (classic), an enticing Barbera d'Alba Superiore, a full-bodied and balanced Langhe Nebbiolo. We have also recently introduced a floral Langhe Bianco, made from viognier grapes.

Winery tours

We offer a wide range of hospitality services: tastings, private parties, company meetings, guided cellar tours, picnics and hiking trips.
