History
The small winery, Azienda Agricola Costamagna Isacco, saw the light in 2017, but its first activities began as early as 2014, when Isacco inherited his grandparents' land. From then on, young Isacco, assisted in large part by his maternal grandmother's brother, slowly began to grow the company to its current 2 hectares. In 2021, after having delivered his grape harvest to Trediberri from 2017 until 2020, and freshly out of wine school, Isacco, starts making his own wine and also decides to change the company name to what it is today: Castrum Roche. This results in the production of the first 6664 bottles of Langhe Nebbiolo. In 2022, with the help of sister Maria and arch. Marolo, the first label is designed and, thanks to the continuous support of mother Michela and father Roberto, the cellar is renovated.
People
Isacco Costamagna, a former student at the Umberto I Wine School in Alba, runs the company, with the help of his family: sister Maria, mother Michela and father Roberto. However, the passion for winemaking was already present in the hearts of Isacco's grandparents: Gagliasso Enrico (co-founder of Gagliasso F.lli) and Costamagna Luigi (grape grower).
Vineyards
The vineyards, currently covering 2 hectares and planted with Nebbiolo, are located in the Torriglione area and are all estate-owned. In fact, Torriglione, dating back to 1477 according to the municipal cadastre, was called Castrum Roche, i.e., country fortress, and in vulgarised Latin stood for Castello delle Rocche: as it is located opposite the Rocche dell'Annunziata (Rocha).
Wines
Today, the winery produces Langhe Nebbiolo, but Isacco is ready for new challenges and will soon expand his range with a Barolo and a Langhe Rosato. The winery's philosophy is to create wines with minimal intervention, without the use of herbicides or chemical fertilisers and only treating with contact insecticides.
Winery tours
Reservations are required to visit the winery.
